Microsoft 365 Password Reset & Change Guide
Audience: End-users of a work / school Microsoft 365 account >
Prerequisites:
- Your IT admin has enabled Self-Service Password Reset (SSPR) in Microsoft Entra ID. You’re already registered at least one security-info method (Authenticator app, phone, or email)
- Self-service password reset lets you unlock or change your password without waiting for the help desk, cutting downtime and tickets.
1 Verify that SSPR is available
- Go to https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info and sign in.
If the left-hand menu shows “Password” and you see “Change password” or “Forgot my password” links at sign-in, SSPR is enabled.
- If those options are missing, your organisation hasn’t turned it on—contact your IT support.
2 Forgotten your password? (Can’t sign in)
In a browser open https://passwordreset.microsoftonline.com or, on the sign-in page, click Can’t access your account?
- Enter your work/school email address and solve the CAPTCHA.
- Choose a verification method (Authenticator push/code, text, call, or alternate email) and complete the prompt.
- Enter the code or approve the notification, then create a new, strong password (at least 8 characters, avoid common words).
- Click Finish and sign in with the new password.
3 Know your password but want to change it
- Sign in at https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info.
Select Password → Change password.
- Type your current password, then enter and confirm a new password.
- Select Submit / Save. The change takes effect immediately across Microsoft 365 services. ([support.microsoft.com][5])
