Accessing SharePoint from Teams, OneDrive, or Browser

This guide explains how users can access SharePoint sites and content via Microsoft Teams, OneDrive, or a web browser.

1. Accessing SharePoint via Microsoft Teams

You can add a SharePoint site to a specific Teams channel, but only the associated SharePoint site of that Team can be selected.

Steps:

  1. Open Microsoft Teams.
  2. Go to Apps (bottom-left corner).
  3. Search for SharePoint and click Add.
  4. In the dialog box that opens, you'll be prompted to:
  • Choose a Team and Channel where the SharePoint app will be used.
  • ⚠️ You can only select SharePoint sites associated with existing Teams.

📌 This integration adds a tab that links to the SharePoint site of the selected Team — not any arbitrary SharePoint URL.

2. Accessing SharePoint via OneDrive

Files stored in SharePoint document libraries are also accessible from OneDrive.

Steps:

  1. Open your OneDrive from the Office portal or directly via onedrive.com.
  2. In the left panel, select Shared > Shared libraries.
  3. Choose the SharePoint team or site from the list.

📌 This gives you direct access to team site document libraries connected to Microsoft Teams and Microsoft 365 groups.

3. Accessing SharePoint via Web Browser

You can open the SharePoint portal directly from your browser for full functionality.

Steps:

  1. Visit https://portal.office.com and sign in.
  2. Click on the SharePoint icon in the app launcher (top-left grid icon).
  3. Choose the required site from Frequent sites, Followed sites, or search for it.

📌 Use this method for full access to site content, lists, pages, and settings.

Additional Tips

  • Use the "Follow" button on any SharePoint site to quickly access it from your SharePoint home.
  • Bookmark important SharePoint sites for even faster access.
  • Make sure you have the correct permissions to access specific sites or content.
